While the strength of composite grips comes mainly from the laminated sleeve the foam core densities each have their pros and cons.
We offer 3 densities of Foam Cores to meet your needs:
4# – is the lightest and is great for trying to shave off every last gram of weight. It is also the softest, more prone to voids, may wallow on flex and less lathe friendly. (1) 15″ x 1.25″ core=1.25oz.
6# – is Riley Rods Choice for a vast majority of grip/handle applications. Very easy to shape while maintaining integrity and still very light. (1) 15″ x 1.25″ core=1.75oz.
8# – is the heaviest with nearly the consistency of wood. Overkill except for applications of extreme durability (ie. 50lb+ class trolling rods) (1) 15″ x 1.25″ 15″ core=2.5oz.
Foam Cores are also great for making your own Reel Seat Arbors (6# for light to medium applications, 8# for the heavy stuff), Tube Arbors, Butt Shims and more. Great to have around the shop.
